The current White Hart Inn, in the Grassmarket, is said to be one of the most haunted pubs in Scotland. It was built in 1740, but its foundations are from 1516. The pub's had many different uses over the years - its been a venue for marriages, a drop off point for people travelling by stage coach; it was once the place were condemned prisoners would occasionally be granted a last

before being hanged.
The White Hart Inn is also the pub where Burke and Hare trawled for victims. A shadowy figure has been seen behind the bar many times over the years. It often goes down into the cellar, but if you follow, you won't find anybody there. Other things have been seen in the cellar, though - staff have reported seeing a ghostly pair of legs, doors have slammed, barrels have moved of their own accord, beer taps have been turned off and gas bottles been disconnected.
