Believed to have been built by Robert De'Lacy, finished sometime in the 1180's; it's Norman keep has been a familiar landmark for over 800 years.
The white lady has been seen on a number of occasions, nobody is really sure who she is or could be.
Spectral Family. Ghosts of a female, male and young child have been seen around the castle. It is thought they are members of the same family.
Maid. A forlorn figure, nobody knows who she is, but she is seen on a regular basis.
Soldier believed to date from the 1900's, is also said to haunt the castle and has been reported on many occasions.
As well as the above the following phenomena have been reported. Strange light anomalies, unaccountable odours, cold spots and inexplicable noises.
First Location - Second Floor
There were some rooms that were locked as they contained dangerous chemicals and asbestos. On entering the first room Rachie and myself felt sick and dizzy. Some light anomalies were caught on camera, and Daz felt dizzy when one was caught going past him.
In the second storage area we were all stood talking and 2 taps were heard on a wooden cabinet. We asked out for a response and received another tap for yes. We asked for them to tap on the sink area and right after Richard asked us a question on would they know what a sink is, myself, Rachie and Daz heard a voice say yes. This was caught on camcorder.
Second Location - Ground Floor
Some strange noises were heard, but found to be naturally occuring in the building. Rachie asked me to stand in a corner to see if i felt anything, and it was a bit like being on a swing with something coming towards you then swinging away again; i also felt tingling on my back and Rachie reprted she had felt that too.
Third Location - First floor crystal and fossil rooms
Some light anomalies were caught, but overall it was a pretty quiet vigil. We did try a circle, but again this was quiet and unproductive.
Storage Area - second time
I was pointing the camera filming everyone else in the room, and i kept having the urge to look down the corridor. What i saw next was an upright shadow of a victorian lady walk through a locked door, across the corridor, and through another locked door on the oppposite side. Checked with Frank who runs the place, and he said yes this has been reported on numerous occassions.
Ground floor - second time
Lots of noises, none were paranormal though. Put it down to the Phantom Farter of Clitheroe, lol.
Overall it was a good night and a fantastic location.
Angel!!!
